Thank you for (thinking about) not smoking

The contrast between the city of Clemson's bold decision to move forward on a smoking ban and the city of Anderson's decision to let people know how they feel about it couldn't be starker....
I think it's time for everyone to just agree that we are winning the battle in reducing smoking rates and reducing the number of people who die because government and advocacy groups have made it a) harder to smoke and b) not as socially acceptable.
The best way to proceed is to ban smoking everywhere in places public and private where people gather and then create some carefully chosen exceptions, not too dissimilar to Clemson's, which allows for "private smoking clubs." It's not going to score political points in red state America. But, as I said in this previous blog post, the sky won't fall.
Anderson's desire to encourage businesses to go smoke free is just wussy.
