Welcome to Boston
Posted June 6, 2008
Not since 1987 have Celtic’s fans been able to come together and chant the battle cry “Beat L.A.! Beat L.A.!” That was the exact sound coming out of the garden tonight as we start game one of the NBA Finals with an attendance of 18,624. This marks the 11th time these teams have met in the NBA finals and between them they have a combined total of 30 NBA titles (Boston 16, LA 14). Boston won both regular season games against LA. Both of those games took place before the acquired Gasol.
At half time the score was LA 51 Boston 46. The Celtic’s defense was able to hold Kobe Bryant to 3-for-10 for eight points in the first half. The second half started with us seeing Paul Pierce being carried off the court and wheeled to the locker room with a strained knee. Shortly after that incident the crowd erupted as Pierce came back on the court taking his place in Lakers vs. Celtics history, as the kid from LA came back to give his fans in Boston one to remember. Kevin “Big Ticket” Garnett scored 24 points, Pierce scored 22-11 after returning from his injury, and Ray Allen finally found his game putting up 19 points as the big three look for there first NBA Championship and Boston’s 17th.
Breakdown of each team.
Lakers: 9 Team Rebounds, 19 point’s in the paint, 13 point’s on turnovers, 2 point’s on fast break’s, with a high lead of 5. The top 4 for LA were Bryant with 24, Gasol with 15, Fisher with 15, and Odom with 14.
Celtics: 15 Team Rebound’s, 20 point’s in the paint, 5 point’s on turnover’s, 6 point’s on fast break’s, with a high lead of 10.
