The Motor Mouth

YouTube finds

Posted September 6, 2008

The first video is a montage of supercar wrecks — set to the music of Slim Shady himself — sure to make anyone at Allstate nervous. The first shows a front-end collision with the seven-figure Bugatti Veyron. It goes downhill from there.

The next video is a little more tasteful, and shows a spectacular wreck from one of my favorites — a WRX. Now, if you look up WRX crash, you'll likely pull half of YouTube's videos, but you can't help but wonder how this guy escaped with his life. After a good warm-up lap, his Subie bites the big one. All I'll say is he should have found someone to mount those racing tires ...

If you're into brutal V-8 sounds, this video's for you. Dyno pulls are great to hear the full range of the soundtrack under the hood, and this cammed 'Vette is no different. In fact, it might be one of the best-sounding cars on YouTube — once it gets past idle, that is.

I love watching Nurburgring runs, and to see my all-time favorite Corvette, the new ZR-1, eat it up in a scant 7:26.4. I'm envious of the skill level to simply navigate that tricky course, much less ace it in under 8 minutes.

Group B rally cars are some of the most brutal ever created. And this video compiles the sights and sounds from this now-defunct rally racing series. The astounding power of these legendary cars eventually led to so many deaths that it was outlawed after just a few years. All your favorites are there, from the Lancia Delta to the Audi Quattro.

And I couldn't end this blog without a link to one of my favorite car-themed programs of all time, "Top Gear." This is the classic episode where they tried to determine what it would take to destroy a Toyota pickup. As you'll find out, it's a lot.

Enjoy!

Car Wrecks- sad but kinda lame. I was hoping to see some actual video of these wrecks instead of a picture montage.

WRX crash- a testament of just how safe those cars are. I'd gladly get into a crash in an Impreza any day over a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo/Ralliart. In fact, I have been in an accident with a WRX and I must say, she drove away without a limp.

V8 sound- Holy cam overlap! This is why we have VVT.

Nurburgring- You can see she's a little twitchy in corners but bone-crushingly fast in the straights. The GT-R, in comparison, was faster in the corners and slower in the straights.

Group B- +1, Rick! Epic!

Top Gear- Classic episode, Mike! They're in full Myth Busters mode here! Another great testament to the build strength of Toyota. Easily one of the greatest episodes from Top Gear. It ties with last season's "Quest for the greatest driving road in Europe" episode.

Here's the Top Gear episode I mentioned in the post above. Absolutely phenomenal. I wish we had this kind of television programming here in the States.

The car wreck montage was kind of lame, I'll admit, but seeing millions of dollars worth of supercars wrecked by idiots was entertainment value enough.
