Grooming issues and Bell Bottoms.
Posted September 5, 2008
I burned another CD for my folks, full of '70's music.
What makes the 70's so forgettable?
The Dodge Gremlin.
Tricky Dick Nixon.
Jimmy Carter.
Saigon.
Pet Rocks.
Bell bottoms.
Platform shoes.
Disco.
Hush Puppies.
Sideburns.
Still, the music of the 70's, while somewhat campy and somewhat ill-defined, is rife with utter greatness.
Doobie Brothers. Allman Brothers. Neil Diamond. Parliament Funkadelic. Gordon Lightfoot. Simon and Garfunkel. Jim Croce. KC and the Sunshine Band. Average White Band. Isaac Hayes. Barry White.
The Bee-Gee's.
Al Green.
Top 10 Seventies songs, in no particular order:
"Listen to the Music" - Doobie Bro's.
"Everybody's Talkin'" - Harry Nilsson
"The Boxer" - Simon and Garfunkel
"More than a Feeling" - BOSTON
"Night Fever" - The BeeGee's
"Boogie Shoes" - KC and the Sunshine Band
"Hooked on a Feelin'" - BJ Thomas
"Margaritaville" - Jimmy Buffett
"Luckenbach, Tx" - Waylon Jennings
"Fire and Rain" - James Taylor
And anything from the "Muppet Show".

Actually, the Gremlin was built by a now-defunct company called AMC (that was taken over in the '80s by Chrysler). Dodge did, however, produce an equally reprehensible car called the Aspen (along with its identical twin, the Plymouth Volare). I believe it went down in infamy as the most-recalled vehicle in history.

I remember AMC; the company that made everything from cars (so-called) to gymnastics equipment to soccer balls.

I don't know if that's the same company or not.
