    No food left on the shelves for five days, the Floyd Berry, president of the Good Neighbor Cupboard was glad to see the Golden Pantry and a donation from BI-LO make a tough situation better.   Mr. Berry said the food could last for two to three weeks, and is wonderful in helping those who hunger for a meal in a time of need, whether they are homeless, unemployed, or cannot afford food.

    Tornado activity buzzed Upstate South Carolina and Northeast Georgia, causing damage at Clemson University as well.  Students in schools were in lockdown until officials allowed them to be picked up.  Students at Clemson took cover, and some found their cars under trees after students spotted a funnel cloud over Death Valley.

    In spite of off and on again rain fans turned out Friday night to see Wren take on Southside in the season opener at Wren High School. At halftime the Wren Softball team was given their state championship rings.

    Emmett Tucker of Anderson and his friend James "Magic" Wilson of Spartanburg decided as longtime motorcyle riders to earn the Iron Butt award.   They mapped riding from South Carolina to Canada, just over the 1,000 mile mark and just a half-hour under the 24-hour limit.

    One of four area teams to open their football season Friday August 22, Crescent High School held a Thursday night pep rally with barbecue dinner.   Cheerleaders, the Marching Tiger Band, football players, and supporters showed their excitement for the season opener.  Other teams opening their season include Wren, Walhalla, and Dixie.  Many others open next week, Friday August 29.
