Regarding President’s Day (Feb. 19), we need to remember to honor all presidents.
Abraham Lincoln was never president over South Carolina. South Carolina had dissolved her union with the other states prior to Lincoln taking office.
At 1:15 p.m. Dec. 20, 1860, South Carolina voted unanimously to dissolve the union between South Carolina and the other states and South Carolina became a sovereign nation for almost two months, at which time six other states officially entered into the establishment of the Confederate States of America.
As history tells us, we lost the War Between the States. However, Lincoln was assassinated before South Carolina was admitted back into the Union. The point is, let’s not forget to also honor the president of the Confederacy, the honorable Jefferson Davis.
