Westside, Daniel and Abbeville fall in high school football playoffs

Stephens County, Habersham advance to second round in Georgia

None of three area teams from South Carolina advanced to the next round of the high school playoffs Friday night, but two of three area teams from northeast Georgia moved on to the second round.

Westside, D.W. Daniel, Abbeville and Hart County saw their seasons end. Stephens County and Habersham are still alive.

No. 5 Westside (10-3) suffered a 34-8 loss at No. 4 Beaufort (11-2) in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs.

No. 3 D.W. Daniel (11-2) fell 48-24 at No. 2 Chester (11-2) in the third round of the Class AAA playoffs.

Abbeville (12-1), the top-ranked team in Class AA, suffered a 23-13 loss at Chapman (11-2) in the third round of the Class AA playoffs.

In Georgia, Stephens County (11-0) rolled to a 41-10 victory over Cedartown (5-6) in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs. At 7:30 p.m. next Friday, the Indians will play host to Chamblee (10-1), a 47-34 winner of Flowery Branch (9-2) in a first-round game Friday night at Flowery Branch.

In another first-round Class AAA game, Hart County (8-2-1) suffered a 23-8 loss at home to Sandy Creek (7-4).

Habersham Central (10-1) advanced to the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs with a 24-7 victory over Marist (8-3). At 7:30 p.m. next Friday, the Raiders will play host to Cherokee (8-3), a 21-19 winner over Dalton (9-2) on Friday in the first round of the Georgia Class AAAA playoffs.
