Stephens County A two-term Stephens County Board of Education member is not seeking a third term.
George Payne, an at-large member of the school board, said Tuesday that it is time for him to move on from the board.
“There are many people who could serve in this capacity, and who could bring something new to this Board of Education, so I am just making an opportunity for them to step in,” Mr. Payne said.
Mr. Payne has served on the school board for eight years. He said in that time, he is most proud of the work the board has done to raise student achievement.
He is proud, he said, of “the fact that we have made it our goal and objective to improve the achievement of our students and it looks to me, based on the data that I have seen, that our kids are achieving, and they are doing extremely well, and I am proud of them.”
