One incumbent running for Pickens County school board seat on first day of filing

STORY TOOLS

— Incumbent Herbert Cooper of Clemson was the only filer on the first day of candidate qualifying for Pickens County School District Board of Trustees elections, according to the staff of the Pickens County Registration and Elections office.

Dr. Cooper, who was elected to the school board for the first time in 1992, will be seeking a fifth term representing District 1. He is a graduate of Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina.

Alex Saitta, representing District 3, the Pickens area, has announced his intention to seek re-election, at the same time voicing sharp criticism of the management style of District Superintendent Lee D’Andrea.

Three seats on the nine-member board are up for election in November. The District 5 seat, representing the Easley area and held by James C. Brice, also is up for election.

Qualifying opened at noon on Friday and runs through noon on Aug. 15, according to Rodney Allen, Pickens County executive director of registration and elections.
