Oregon man ignores blue light special at Anderson McDonald’s

STORY TOOLS

— An Anderson County Sheriff’s deputy said his blue light failed to catch the attention of a reportedly drunk driver in the drive-through lane of a McDonald’s restaurant about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Oregon man was initially confronted after his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado truck was reported driving erratically near Westside High School on S.C. 28 Bypass Tuesday night, according to the incident report.

Deputy J.F. Marano said Eric Kennedy, 32, ignored verbal commands to stop at McDonald’s and fled in the truck, leaving Marano in pursuit with lights and siren, the deputy’s report states.

He wrecked his truck near the home he shares with his cousin on Ferry Street and led Marano on a foot pursuit until Kennedy’s arrest about 2 a.m. Wednesday, but not before breaking the watch of the deputy, who used his Taser and pepper spray to end the struggle.

Kennedy was charged with driving under the influence, malicious injury to personal property and resisting arrest.
