Anderson County fire chief elected to state position

ANDERSON COUNTY — Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson was elected into his first position with the South Carolina Firefighters Association in what he hopes will lead him to the commission’s presidential spot.

For the next year, Gibson, the top-ranking member of Anderson County’s 27 volunteer fire stations, will serve in the fourth vice presidential seat for the state’s fire association. He will continue to help the commission campaign for legislation that assists firefighters, he said.

Gibson has been a member of the fire association for 20 years and also serves on the board of trustees for the association’s foundation, which helps raise money for scholarships and other benefits for firefighters and their families.
