ANDERSON A city judge ordered an Anderson woman to pay a $4,200 debt from bad checks and gave her a choice of going to jail or paying a fine for failing to accompany officers.
Natasha Ward, 35, of Marshall Avenue was found guilty Tuesday in Anderson Municipal Court of failing to accompany officers, writing five checks without sufficient funds to cover them and writing one check on a closed account.
Officer Bradley Small testified that Ward opened the door to her apartment and pushed it shut when he attempted to serve warrants for bad checks. Ward testified that she was attempting “to keep flies out of her apartment.”
According to the incident report, officers arrived at Ward's apartment about 4:45 p.m. Monday.
Small testified that before Ward could be arrested, he had to force her to the ground on two occasions.
According to Tuesday's testimony, two of Ward's checks, valued at $100.18, were written to Plez-U convenience store, and four checks, valued at $433.93, were written to Wal-Mart.
