Two Anderson men shot at west side gas station early Sunday

STORY TOOLS

— Two Anderson men are recovering from gunshot wounds after a fight escalated at a gas station about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Kelechi Cowan, 23, of Evergreen Street suffered a gunshot wound to his knee, and Richard Haliey of West Whitner Street suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Deputies interviewed 10 other men with addresses from Greenville, Anderson, Belton and Williamston, who said the victims “had gotten into a fight with people they did not know, and then someone started shooting,” Deputy L. E. Meador said in the report.

A 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, which had a broken passenger window and shell casings around it, was found in a gas station's parking lot at 691 S.C. 28 Bypass.

Meador said he talked with all the witnesses, “who stated they did not see who was shooting,” the report states.
