Recently, Clemson has kept its students entertained with music and film events. With a few exceptions along the way (mainly America’s Best Dance Crew Live), the gamut of entertainment options runs somewhat limited.
That in mind, enter Littlejohn Coliseum’s breath of fresh air. On Friday, actor/comedian/writer/cake-connoisseur Jim Gaffigan will stop by Littlejohn Coliseum on his ironically titled 2008 Sexy Tour. If you don’t know who Jim Gaffigan is, first hit yourself then go to YouTube and type in “Jim Gaffigan Hot Pockets.” If you, like the 61,859 other people that have watched the video, can’t stop laughing and repeating the Hot Pocket jingle, then drop by the Littlejohn ticket office and make your purchase. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $39.75 for the general public or $25 (plus applicable fees) for anyone with a Clemson student ID.
I’ve portended its arrival and it’s finally here. Local radio station WSBF’s first concert of the season happens this Saturday. As always, the show is an indie showcase; this time centered around three bands: Shake It Like a Caveman, Paleface, and The Elegance. Each band has a completely different (yet oddly cohesive) sound ranging from folk acoustic to bluesy fuzz rock. If you happen to be a picky listener, all three bands have MySpace sites with uploaded tracks. The show starts at 7 p.m. and is the first WSBF show in the Catherine J. Smith Plaza located in downtown Clemson. As always, it’s free.
Continuing in the vein of “free,” McKissick Theater is offering another sneak preview Wednesday with Ridley Scott’s new film “Body of Lies.” The film centers on a counter-terrorist operative (Leonardo DiCaprio) hired by a CIA official (Russell Crowe) and depicts a violent fallout between the two men. But, pretty much all you need to know is that it’s a Ridley Scott film (the director of “Alien,” “Blade Runner” and “Gladiator”) featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. If that’s enough to convince you to go, the movie is at 9 p.m. and, like last time, there’s the promise of free popcorn and free giveaways. All you need to remember is that seating is limited so come early and don’t forget your student ID.
