Regarding Tuesday’s editorial on the death of actor and philanthropist Paul Newman: “Numerous sources state that while Mr. Newman was rejected as a pilot candidate due to his color blindness, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific as an aircraft radio operator. Specifically, Mr. Newman’s obituary in the New York Times mentions his military service. Mr. Paul Newman did indeed serve in the U.S. Navy in WWII.”
Our thanks to reader Kevin Larkin of Seneca for the correct information.
