Anderson native and country singer Casey Joe is helping children in need again this Christmas, and this time he's bringing superstar Tracy Lawrence along for the ride.
On Dec. 16, Casey Joe's Christmas will take place at the Civic Center of Anderson featuring Lawrence as the headliner. The concert is open to the public and admission is just a $10 donation or a toy valued at at least $10.
Last year, Lonestar was the headlining group for Casey Joe's first Christmas concert. Though it went through some snags and even a reported cancellation, the concert went off without a hitch and hundreds of toys were brought in or purchased with the proceeds.
This year organizers, including sponsors The Fred Foundation, the Anderson Independent-Mail and the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center, are expected even bigger crowds than last year.
Lawrence has a new single on the charts "Til I Was A Daddy Too" and won an Academy of Country Music award for "Vocal Event of the Year." He has dozens of hits and has been a mainstay of the country scene for decades.
Casey Joe is currently recording his first album in Nashville, but frequently returns to the Anderson area for benefit concerts and tour gigs.
A limited number of "Gold Circle" seats will be made available in front of the stage. In will entitle the holder to private meet-and-greets with the musicians and front of the stage seats. They are $25 each.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 on Friday, Oct. 10. The Civic Center box office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Only song I know that Tracy sang was Texas Tornado. Not into country too much though.
He actually has lots of top ten hits. I have probably heard "Find out who your friends are" 5,000 times on the radio since it came out.

"5,000 times" .......you must not be listening very often then. They have played the writing off that disc!
I wish that they would bring some talent to this giant garage sale venue.
I don't know exactly what that last comment actually meant (by mickey). I hope I misunderstood you. You won't find any talent any greater than Casey or Tracy or their bands. If you've never been to one of their concerts, you should try it. Both these guys and their bands have as much fun as anybody there. Besides, you can bring a toy and do something for someone who cannot do for themselves.
Thanks for the advice merv. You didn't misunderstand at all. I do however like the toy idea. However I think I will just drop the toy off so I don't have to sit through the horrible "music".
I've seen both in concert in Greenwood and it was a great show. Hopefully I can make it to this one as well.
As for the 'horrible music' you refer to Mickey......what would you rather them have? Call up the director of the Civic Center and make a suggestion. I'm sure if is possible they may look to bring that act in.
I have seen Tracy in concert several times, and I always have fun. I'm planning on going to this concert. It's for a good cause too!

Excellent comment mickey.
Tracey was decent about 15 years ago, but now? The Civic Center will never have decent talent there or anywhere in Anderson!
Why not add Bailey Hanks to the venue!
Wow. Why am I surprised to see the snarkey comments made by the usual group in Anderson? You must not have anything better to do than to criticize others who are actually trying to do something meaningful. What have you done lately to better yourself or your community? Just shut up and stay home if you don't agree with it. There are PLENTY of others who do....
What did I do today? I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior...ever since I lost my job in the mill because our jobs were sent overseas my family has been struggling to pay our mortgage and keep our home. It is so hard to keep up with feeding four kids, plus two grandkids, when my husband has been disabled and can't get any find any work. He tried to get a job as a roadie for this concert but was told he didn't have any experience. Why should Anderson spend money to bring in entertainment when my family starves?

Isn't that the truth?
This concert is for charity!!
Anderson people beat all I've ever seen. They whine and complain when the Civic Center doesn't have concerts and such. But when they try to put on a concert, for kids no less, you whine and complain then too. The truth is wouldn't do for the Civic Center to have a "big name" star because the cheap Anderson people wouldn't come to see them. Nobody in this town wants to pay for anything. They want it all handed to them and think they deserve to have everything free because they pay taxes. Guess what, we all do. Its a part of life. Deal with it. Why don't the ones of you who think you know how to run it all, start your own town and leave the rest of us alone. We'll all be better for it.
You people amaze me. So what if you don't like who is coming to the Civic Center. Big stars who you think have more talent WON'T come to Anderson because we don't have a large enough venue. Kenny Chesney doesn't even come to Greenville because the Bilo Center is not big enough for him. Get over it already.

Well said. Anderson had the choice years ago to build an arena that could host the bigger names, but chose to goes with the glitz and glamor that is the Civic Center. Now people complian that the bigger names refuse to come here. Can't say I blame them. Why in the world would anybody want to play for 5,000 people, when 30 miles away they can play for 15,000. Big difference in cash there.
However, we do have that big ampitheater across the street that would hold a lot of people. Why aren't the powers that be pushing to put shows in it? Maybe all of you that want to throw rocks about what's coming should call and ask why they're not using it? And if you're not willing to do that....then close your mouth and let the rest of us enjoy our show.
cherryj, I'm glad to read that you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, and sad that you're experiencing financial difficulties, as we all are. But what does this OR your suggestion that Bailey Hanks be brought in have to do with the Casey Joe benefit concert? Casey Joe and his manager raise or pay the money needed for any expenses, and if anything is left, it goes straight to a charitable organization, such as Anderson Interfaith ministries. Neither the Civic Center nor the county of Anderson contributes any money.
...so put that in your snarkey pipe and smoke it, mickey and 10SCNighhawk...

I think everyone has missed the point on Cherry J's comment. Her children and grandchildren could receive some of these gifts if they apply for them. She does not have to go to the concert. The point I am trying to make is if they are starving why are they paying for the internet and not buying food for their family. After all they need food and do not have to have the internet!. Am I the only one who thought this? Something is wrong somewhere or is it me.
