Good Cents to hold town hall meeting in Anderson

— Good Cents for Anderson, the citizen’s group supporting the penny sales tax ballot issue in November, will hold its second town hall forum tonight at the Anderson Civic Center.

From 6 to 7 p.m., proponents of the measure will hold an informational forum about the Capital Projects Sales Tax, a penny sales tax that is expected to raise $163 million in taxes over seven years to pay for infrastructure projects identified as needs by area residents.

An overview of the campaign, as well as a question and answer session will be open to those attending.

Project planners estimate that 38 percent of the tax would be paid for by out-of-town visitors to the area and that the tax would cost individual residents no more than $67 per year.

Opponents to the tax have questioned the need for the tax, as well as whether or not the tax should be levied before Anderson County residents know, through an audit, what the county is actually spending money on.

The tax issue will be on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Interesting that the county and their lobbyists are spending tens of thousands of dollars to garner support for this new tax, which 100% of Anderson County residents will pay.
Belton gets a million dollar recreation building from this tax and also $250,000 for "city hall renovations" from the borrowed 10 million dollar bond issue.
