Toccoa police have charged a South Carolina woman in relation to a reported shoplifting case earlier this month at the Toccoa Wal-Mart.

In a news release issued Wednesday by the Toccoa Police Department, authorities said they arrested Sherry Diane Blakely, 40, of Union, S.C., on Tuesday in relation to an incident Friday.According to police, they responded to the Toccoa Wal-Mart late last week. Once they arrived, police spoke with the loss prevention officer, who said a computer tower, Dell computer monitor, and a Polaroid flat-screen TV all were had been taken from the store Friday morning. The items reported taken had a total value of slightly more than $1,000, officials said.

Police were able to obtain a video of the alleged theft. Blakely is accused of leaving the scene before being tracked down later, according to Toccoa Police Chief Jackie Whitmire.

“A couple of days later … the detectives got the suspect identified and through their investigation made contact with her,” Whitmire said. “They found her and got her back here to the police department, where she admitted to what she had done and then called a family member to bring the items back.”

Police have charged Blakely with felony theft by shoplifting, and she was released from the Stephens County Jail on a secured bond of $5,100.

According to authorities, all of the items reported taken were recovered and returned to Wal-Mart.
