Standing-room-only crowd awaits B-HP-Daniel

STORY TOOLS

Taking a break from watching film on Seneca last week, D.W. Daniel coach Randy Robinson peeked ahead to this week’s matchup with Belton-Honea Path.

Since the beginning of the season, Robinson has heard about the Bears’ perceived struggles, about their 1-4 start, inexperience, and injuries. But Robinson tried to tell anyone who would listen during the non-region season that the Bears would turn it around in time for Western 3A action.

Robinson was on the money.

And look what we have here: a 2-0 showdown in Central this week with the only two Western 3A unbeatens — B-HP (3-4) and Daniel (7-0).

Moments after the Bears’ 35-14 win over Pickens, B-HP coach Wayne Green began his team’s preparations for the Lions.

“They have quick score capability, they can score in a hurry,” Green said. “They’ll have the best group of skilled athletes that we’ll line up against all year long.”

And no one needed to remind the Bears Friday night that Daniel won 14-7 last season, one of two region losses for the Bears. Daniel’s region crown last year also snapped B-HP’s run of five straight titles.

Four words for Friday: Standing-room-only-crowd.
