It’s no secret that rock radio stations are notorious for putting on the some of the loudest concerts on the largest scales. So, in celebration of its 12th year as the Upstate’s leading new rock and alternative station, New Rock 93.3 The Planet has managed to book a concert that lives up to these standards in providing four acts in one show.

On Tuesday, The Planet is throwing what it’s calling Birthday Bash 12 at the Littlejohn Coliseum in what may prove to be the biggest Clemson campus concert event this fall. Headlining the bash is the metalcore phenomenon Avenged Sevenfold. Anyone familiar with “Guitar Hero II” knows Avenged Sevenfold as the band behind the guitar shredding song “The Beast and the Harlot.” For a taste of what they can bring to a live show, just go to youtube and search “bat country live.”

Setting up Avenged Sevenfold, The Planet booked a lead-in band that is equally if not more popular — Buckcherry. Anyone that listened to alternative rock radio in 1999 remembers Buckcherry’s first single, “Lit Up,” for its infectious chorus about the lead singer’s, how do I put this, “affinity for certain nose candies.” After a messy breakup and several lawsuits, Buckcherry reformed with a new lineup and found success with the hard rock tell-off “Crazy B----” in 2006 and more remorseful “Sorry” in 2007. Since then, the band kept up its radio play and managed to tour with the likes of Motley Crue and Papa Roach.

Setting up for the rival headliners are two opening acts: Shinedown and Saving Abel. Both bands fall under the heavy rock genre and while Shinedown has achieved modest popularity in rock charts, Saving Abel is just breaking the scene with the release of its debut album this year.

The show starts at 7 p.m. and costs $35 plus applicable fees and a student ID will get you a $5 discount off the ticket price. For tickets, visit the Littlejohn ticket office of buy online at www.newrock933.com.

Ticket Master notified me last week that Avenged Sevenfold had to cancel. The headline will be Buckcherry supported by Saving Abel and Shinedown.
