Get outdoors and see the majesty of the hawks at area parks

STORY TOOLS

There are more magnificent views in and around the Upstate than one could possibly visit in a lifetime. There are mountains to the north, lakes all around (though a little dry at present) and rolling hills and green spaces as far as the eye can see.

And sometimes, those views of the sky can be breathtaking. Like the ones going on this Saturday at Caesar’s Head State Park in Cleveland.

Saturday morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Caesars Head will host the Hawk Watch. All are invited to see the southern migration of hawks, raptors and eagles as they head even farther south for the winter.

The fall is the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy all that nature has to offer. In the coming weeks, thousands will flock to the mountains to see some of the most beautiful foliage just before the trees become barren for the winter.

Until then, look skyward for a chance to see hundreds of large birds take to the sky to warmer climates for the winter.

The park is home to Raven Cliff Falls, with a 420-foot drop, and one of only two suspension bridges that provide some great views of the birds and the land around the park. The Hawk Watch is suitable for those ages 15 and older. Binoculars are suggested.
