Sylvia Smith of Salem competes in the log toss at Hillbilly Days in Mountain Rest Friday. Smith, who has attended the event several times, said she decided to try the log toss for the first time this year because her mother won the competition against the men last year. This was the first year that women and men competed in seperate divisions.
