The problem with hospital billing is that they charge UNINSURED or "SELF-PAY" patients 2.5 times MORE than what they charge the insurance companies... go figure.

If I do get elected, I aim to work diligently to correct this problem.

The major myths regarding Video Poker:

1. It increases crime.
2. It brings corruption.
3. It breaks up families.
4. It causes gambling addiction.

The truths:

1. Crime has increased over the past 10 years. We have not had video poker in 10 yrs.

2. While legal, video poker dealers paid taxes and pay-off percentages were regulated. Since prohibition, there are still gambling houses out there that are unregulated and pay no state license fees, thereby the prohibition of video poker has developed a breeding ground for more potential corruption than while legal.

3. The divorce rate is still hovering around the same percentage as when we had video poker.

4. People still gamble. AND people cross into NC, fly to casino areas, etc. to give their money elsewhere instead of keeping the money in SC.

I have gone much more in-depth in this issue before.

"No, video poker only produced $60 million per year for the state in license fees. See this article: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage...

Um, your findings are flawed. Rather than going to New York to get my figures, I depended on primary sources for my information... former video poker distributors from and in South Carolina and not the New York Times. I have seen books that were kept. $60 million total per year claim does not compute mathematically when 1 small distributor alone paid an average of $26 million per year in license fees to SC.

A penny here and a penny there. Before long, just another penny and another and another will make it 10% sales tax.

I fully understand the need for money for roads and bridges. I fully understand the need for public water service to be made available on a county-wide basis. When water districts were formed, that was the goal... to provide water service through the entirety of the counties.

Iva is in my Senate district, but there are much better ways to provide the revenues needed for county-wide water service than raising the sales tax for 7 years. Video Poker generated over $1 billion per year in revenues to the State of SC as it was when SC got rid of it. Divided evenly among the 46 counties, it would translate into approx. $21.740 million per year per county. Multiplied by 7 years, it would translate into approx. $152.180 million. Same or better result... and no sales tax increase. Hmmmmmm.

And then we can leave the sales tax increases for REPLACING the property taxes... just as initially proposed... by a Democrat in 1996... me. Hmmm.

If I get elected in November, then we'll see these things. Hold me to it.

If I don't get elected... oh well... then that's that. Either way, I don't stand to gain nor lose anything personally from the outcome.

Thanks to the BHP Student Government and Faculty Advisor for putting this whole thing together. I also thank the Belton Museum, the City of Belton, Mayor Callaham, the American Legion Post 51, all the candidates that participated, and the people who attended... all who made this a fun and successfully informative event.

Stump Meetings are old-fashioned but they are a wonderful way to get the voters and the candidates together, and allow the citizens the opportunity to hear the candidates speak on their positions so that we can all have the opportunity to make informed decisions on election days.

"If I were in the gas business and price controls were imposed, I'd shut down, sell nothing and hold on to my supply, wait for the street supply to diminish and for the equally inevitable black market to develop and sell my supply on that black market."

If a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its butt on the ground every time it jumped, too. The key word there of yours is "IF". Do you or have you ever owned your own business? Or are you employed by some other business, or are you even employed or are you living off the government?

So, in accordance with that comment of your, one could then deduce that you believe Trickey Dickey (Richard M. Nixon) was a communist?

In proof-reading this, I must apologize to the Williamston area citizens since Williamston is also in the LA county area.

I was a bit distracted by part of my "family" (my dogs barking at someone pulling up) in-between W. Pelzer and Belton and skipped by Williamston.

My apologies.
